Matador rocks
8" x 12"
oil
I got sand everywhere while painting this. I was sitting in the sand as apposed to standing. I think I will be cleaning sand out of my paint box and bag for the next 6 months.

It's been a while since I've gone to a drawing session much less go with gouache in hand. Felt rusty this morning but that was overtaken by the sheer joy of just doing it.

Although I don't live in Seattle anymore I got a unexpected write up. Pretty need, check it out.

In pink
20" x 16"
oil

This was suppose to be a two session painting but it's looking like the model won't be posing for it at the open session I go to.  I was looking forward to finishing it, oh well at least I got some nice things happening with the start.

poppy
8" x 10"
oil

I went out to paint the poppy fields for the first time. I was told that it was a rather lame year and there isn't going to be huge fields of orange. I did manage to get this painting done and I look forward to going next year.

I don't know what it is about painting things back lit that I find so appealing but I do. So continuing on a theme of painting fruit, which was not intentional. I threw some red apples on my red table and butted it up against the window as the light source. Was a good exercise in reds.

Painted my lovely girlfriend again. Hoping to do some bigger full figure stuff with her soon. She recently bought this very cool blue dress that I've been scoping to paint her in.  Time will tell.

Trees and concrete
12" x 16"
oil

While painting this some guy that was sleeping under a bridge that was to the left of me came out, looked at what I was doing and just laughed and mumbled his way back to the shadows. Later when I was cleaning up he came back out, gave a look and belted out a hearty laugh.  Very amusing.

Wash out

Since living in L.A.  it has become clear, this must be the capital of laundromats. Most are in more modern locations but you still see ones that have been there since the 50's.  I'm pondering doing a series of paintings of them.  Meanwhile I did this little concept.

Contemplation
gouache on toned paper

I see  a pattern when I go to open drawing sessions and decide to bring my gouache. Once the gestures are done and the model poses are 20 minutes, my first painting more times than not is the best one of the bunch, the "Keeper" so to speak.  I find this peculiar and the most likely reason is I'm fresh and so is the model.

My girlfriend's mom has a persimmons tree in her backyard. I have never had a persimmons before this year myself. It's a clean sweet taste and rather yummy.  Next year I'm hoping to paint them on the tree.

Studio on wheels
8" x 10"
oil

when I was out painting this,  the owner crawled out and started talking to me about his ride.  He called it his "studio on wheels."  He was a musician and a very proud of this mobile unit.  I would love to have something like this to travel and paint the country.
